Re: Brooking's Best...
Great compilation, that.

I think I also remember a peach he scored against John Toshack's high-flying Swansea in about the early 80s.

iirc, he got the ball in midfield, brought it towards the penalty area, then let rip into the top right hand corner of the net.

Still love seeing these goals, and with Brian Moore in commentary.

It will be like losing a Father when the great man dies.

Along with Bonzo, true legend in every sense of the word and a gentleman.
Cherish.
Wish they were running our club.

Re: Brooking's Best...
I was at a lot of those games ! He was a genius. Things i remember most was his running with the ball, like someone above says gliding past people, his passing and this amazing ability to cross the ball on the wrong stride when it seemed he'd overrun the ball - never seen anyone else able to do it. Favourite ever player

I remember in about 77-78 there was speculation that Sir Trev was going to be sold to some Swiss team (at least this was what the Sun was saying). Anyway, i woke up one morning to read he was staying. I was a very happy young lad!

Re: Brooking's Best...
Always remember as a lad going to the game and obviously this was before the days of social media so no one knew the team that would be lining up... dunno why but Sir Trev always seemed to be injured in my eyes (don't know why as he played plenty!!) so there was always a massive sigh of relief when his name was called out by the stadium announcer.... and normally a huge groan when Radford's name was called out... me and couple of MATES were yapping Saturday about the old alphabet half times scores and trying to decipher it... was bloody hard if you never had a match prog'

Remember one away at the Baseball Ground (Derby County) where he nutmegged a defender and scored from outside the area - class

Was lucky enough to be at his last game when he came back out in his socks for a lap of honour!! Pity we lost! I envy those who were at the Eintracht Frankfurt home semi final leg, that must have been some night!!

He is my all time favourite Hammer ever. Not even worth mentioning Payet in the same breath. Sir Trev will always have a place in my heart and I have met him on several occasions and he is just as brilliant off the pitch as on it. True class act and 10th May 1980 made my life.

Re: Brooking's Best...
I think I've mentioned this story about Sir Trev every time a thread about him crops up, but I'll do it again:

A few years back i was at The Boleyn for a do organised by the then sponsors of the FA Cup, there were guest speakers and you could have your pic taken with the FA Cup etc if you wanted to. Sir Trev was one of the speakers, and as always spoke very eloquently with great knowledge. Anyway, after the speeches you got a chance to chat with the speakers. Sir Trev used to come and present the end of season trophies at my youth football team, I can't imagine he was paid to do so nor would have accepted any payment, but did so because he loved football and wanted to encourage young players. My Mum had managed to dig out an old photo of me receiving an award from Sir Trev and I took along to ask him to sign it. Not only did he remember my old team, the name of my manager etc but he looked at the pic and asked if I was the skinny lad that played in midfield? Turns out he had seen the last 20 minutes or so of our end of season game that day and thought I looked alright! It just goes to show you what gentleman he is and what love he has for the game that he remembered so much. The last bit about remembering seeing me play was probably just Sir Trev telling a little white lie to make me smile. But bloody hell did I smile!

Re: Brooking's Best...
My favourite all-time West Ham player.
Class player (with either foot) and a true gent.
As said, scored loads of great goals as well. Remember one against Villa away 81/82? Curled it in to the top corner.
Spoke to him at wanstead station last year. Top bloke.

Zico.

I started going in 1964 and there was a stretch where i i only missed 6 home games in 25years. The EINTRACHT game us still my favourite game home or away.

Re: Brooking's Best...
Talking About Trevor Brooking just makes me sad for the days when football was a sport and players TRULY felt something for the club.
Sound like an old git but, christ, this threads reinforces the opinion that what we watch today is no more than a group of businesses putting 11 employees out on the pitch who could be working for West Ham, Barclays, Greggs, it means that much to them.
